Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how the ChatPro browser extension ("ChatPro," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use it. ChatPro is a browser extension that adds a "Fork" feature to Claude (claude.ai), ChatGPT (chatgpt.com), and Gemini (gemini.google.com) chat interfaces.

By installing or using ChatPro, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Summary

ChatPro is designed to operate entirely on your device. We do not run servers, we do not collect analytics, and we do not transmit your data to ourselves or to any third party other than the AI provider whose website you are already using.

In plain language: ChatPro stores a small amount of metadata locally in your browser, reads messages from the pages you visit so you can fork them, and does nothing else with your data.

2. Information ChatPro Handles

2.1 Information Stored Locally

ChatPro uses your browser's built-in storage (chrome.storage.sync and chrome.storage.local) to save:

  • Extension settings: a single on/off toggle for whether ChatPro is enabled. Stored in chrome.storage.sync, which means it may sync across your Chrome profiles via Google's standard Chrome sync mechanism if you have Chrome sync enabled. ChatPro does not control or access that sync transport.
  • Fork metadata. For each fork you create, ChatPro stores:
    • A locally generated identifier (UUID)
    • The conversation ID of the parent conversation
    • The fork's display name (e.g. "[Fork] my fork name")
    • The conversation ID of the fork on the provider's platform
    • The model selected (where applicable)

Stored in chrome.storage.local, which never leaves your device.

ChatPro does not store the contents of your messages, your replies, your account credentials, your authentication tokens, or any personally identifying information.

2.2 Information Read From The Page

To create a fork, ChatPro reads the text of the assistant message you are forking from the page's DOM. That text is used in two ways:

  1. Quoted into the prompt sent to the AI provider so the forked conversation has context.
  2. Displayed in the ChatPro side panel as a preview of the parent message.

When you continue a fork conversation, ChatPro also reads new assistant replies from the fork page (for ChatGPT and Gemini, via a hidden iframe; for Claude, via the provider's HTTP endpoints using your existing session cookies) and displays them in the side panel.

This message content is never transmitted to us, never stored persistently by ChatPro, and never written to disk. It exists only in memory for the duration of the active session.

2.3 Information Sent To AI Providers

When you send a message in a fork, that message is delivered to the AI provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google) using the same session you are already signed into in your browser. Your interaction with those providers is governed by their respective privacy policies and terms:

ChatPro is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any of these providers.

3. Information ChatPro Does NOT Collect

To be explicit, ChatPro does not:

  • Operate any server or backend
  • Collect analytics, telemetry, crash reports, usage statistics, or performance data
  • Use cookies, web beacons, fingerprinting, or any other tracking technology
  • Read or store your account credentials, passwords, or authentication tokens
  • Sell, rent, share, license, or transfer any data to third parties
  • Build user profiles or behavioral models
  • Send any network requests to servers operated by us (we do not operate any servers)

4. Permissions

ChatPro requests the minimum browser permissions required to function:

  • storage: to save the on/off toggle and fork metadata locally.
  • declarativeNetRequest: to remove the X-Frame-Options response header on gemini.google.com sub-frame requests only. This is required to embed Gemini's own UI inside a hidden iframe so that the fork feature can work on Gemini. This rule does not affect any other site and does not modify the main Gemini page.
  • Host permissions for claude.ai, chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com, and gemini.google.com to inject the Fork button into these specific sites.

ChatPro does not request permission to access any other site, your browsing history, your tabs outside of supported sites, your downloads, your clipboard, your file system, or your camera/microphone.

5. Data Retention And Deletion

All ChatPro data is stored on your device. To delete it:

  • Clear individual forks: use the delete control in the ChatPro side panel.
  • Clear all ChatPro data: uninstall the extension from chrome://extensions. Chrome will remove all local storage associated with ChatPro.

Forks you create on the AI provider's account (for example, a [Fork] my fork conversation in your Claude history) are stored by that provider and are governed by their data retention policies. To delete them from the provider, use the provider's own delete controls or visit the conversation in their interface directly.

6. Children's Privacy

ChatPro is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect information from children. Because ChatPro does not collect personal information at all, this provision is largely informational.

7. Your Rights

Because ChatPro does not collect personal data, most data protection rights under laws like the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) do not apply to us in any meaningful way. There is no personal data held by us to access, port, correct, or erase.

For data held by the AI providers, exercise your rights directly with them via their privacy contacts.

8. Security

Data stored by ChatPro is stored using Chrome's built-in extension storage APIs. The security of that storage is governed by Chrome itself. ChatPro does not transmit data over the network to any server we operate.

No method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of locally stored data, particularly if your device is compromised.

9. Third-Party Services

ChatPro injects functionality into and interacts with web pages on claude.ai, chatgpt.com, and gemini.google.com. These services are operated by Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google respectively. ChatPro is not affiliated with these companies. Their use of your data is governed by their privacy policies (linked above), not this one.

10. Changes To This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document. If changes are material, we will note them in the extension's release notes and on the extension's website. Continued use of ChatPro after such updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

11. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.
